Nonmember Voting Policy

Preamble:  Article XIV, section 1, of the Covenants & Restrictions, states that “Residents and children of members may petition the Governing Board for specified voting privileges.”  Article I, section 1, paragraph (i) defines “Resident” as “a person who has continuously resided in the Co-operative for 60 days

  1.  Privileges granted: Town Council interprets “specified voting privileges” to mean voting on all issues except the following

a.  Voting on assessments or budgets.

b.  Voting on amendments to the Covenants & Restrictions or to the Bylaws.

c.   Voting on the use of Common Land as collateral.

d.  Voting on uses of investment funds.

2.  Application: Persons applying for specified voting privileges are required to be at least 16 years old, to be living at MLC, and to introduce themselves and make application in person, before Council.Termination of Specified Voting Privileges:

  1. Termination of Specified Voting Privileges:                                                                                                                                            a.  A resident’s specified voting privileges terminate when the resident becomes an MLC landowner (with regular voting rights) or the resident ceases to reside at MLC.                                                                                                                              b.  The specified voting privileges of the child of a member terminate when the child becomes an MLC landowner (with regular voting rights) or the child ceases to have legal residence at MLC.
