Proposals: Ballot Initiative Process
Ballot Initiative Process
In addition to current proposal processes, the following procedure will be allowed as an experiment. After it has been tried once, the process will be revisited.
- Any ten members of the co-op, or three members on the Town Council, can list an issue that will be brought to vote by
membership. The following statement will be Included in the sign-up sheet: “The undersigned feel this item merits an MLC wide vote. Signature does not indicate that the signer supports
or rejects the item.”
- The signed petition will be turned in to the coordinator, who will bring it to the attention of Town Council and the Elections
Committee, which will conduct the vote.
- Any item to be voted on would be titled and numbered, and then published in the AC and presented so that items might
be discussed in groups during at least two meeting cycles prior to being voted on. Additional discussion may take place in other means of communication. Proposals requiring more than 300 dollars in MLC funds must have budget estimate on final ballot.
- An absolute majority of the entire membership is required for a successful vote by the ballot initiative process.
