Bonfire Policy
Because of our respect for the power of fire and our concern for the safety of our residents, land and other property, Town Council has adopted these guidelines for bonfires at the fire ring on common land:
- The fire ring must be scheduled for use through the Community Center Scheduler for private use by groups larger than 10 or for community-wide events. Individuals may reserve the bonfire area using an electronic signup for 10 or less. The Coordinator will be contacted in the event of a memorial bonfire.
- A fire master (firedog) must be contacted to assist or train a lead person to care for the bonfire if it will be used during a Community Center rental event or for a communitywide event.
- No bonfires are permitted during drought conditions when the county or state has issued a fire ban
- If it is very windy (trees are bending & swaying), avoid a bonfire. Appropriate wind speeds for burning are 1-10 mph.
- The fire must be attended at all times and completely extinguished before leaving the premises unattended.
- Dry wood should be used to avoid excessive smoke. There is no storage at the site so unburned wood must be removed.
- Safe fire practices must be used: A long hose is located nearby for use and tools to maintain the fire (shovel, rake, and hoe) are located near the hose bib.
- Please respect our fire pit by not depositing yard trimmings or using pressure treated wood in the pit or drawing with chalk or paint or allowing wheeled vehicles on the spark arrest (the fancy brick border around the retaining wall).
- Lawn chairs are preferred for use on the spark arrest.
- Residents under 18 must have parent sponsorship and a designated adult present at the fire throughout.
- Remove trash such as beverage or food containers.
- Clean bathrooms.
